Let me first say that Vanessa Redgrave's performance is spectacular. People have been recommending this book to me for a number of years, and I finally got around to listening to it. It is easier here because of the difference in time and the softer quality of Vanessa Redgrave's voice as she has aged. (and that is ok for them) This play was so devastating to listen to back in the theater. I think a lot of those who get hung up on her talk about her home in California or travel are just using that as a defense mechanism to avoid thinking about loss. Grief is the same whether you are rich or poor. Some people say they cannot relate to the story because Joan Didion talks about a privileged life. I give her a lot of credit for going on with it despite how much it cost her. That would have been THE performance to see. Her daughter Natasha Richardson had died in March of 2009 and the performance was rescheduled for late October. That was a hard bit of the story for a mother (or anyone else sensitive like me.) Vanessa Redgrave was scheduled to do the play for a benefit at the Church of St. Every mother tells a child they are going to be ok unless they know for certain the child is dying and some do it even then. The only time they were EVER on time in New York to pick me up had to be the very day I would have liked more time! The part of the play I remember feeling so emotional about was at the end when she is asking if she lied to her daughter about the medical tests and care making her well. She asked a woman how her mother was and asked that she tell her she was sorry she did not see her It was a very nice experience which was cut short by the arrival of my Supershuttle ride to the airport. He said the child was fine and back to everyday activities. She asked a man about his grandchild because the last time she saw him the child was very ill. I watched as she spoke to people who are obviously longtime fans. She signed my program and an autobiography of hers from years before. Someone I had talked to earlier told her I had flown up just for the play and she said she was touched that I had made that much of an effort. We were sad after the end of the play, but when she literally popped out of the theater and said hello we were immediately ok. Redgrave came out of the stage door after the performance she was wearing a VERY much washed and worn T-shirt and Jeans. The play was also different because she had an audience and she gets juiced because of them. I really wish they had recorded the original play for video and audio. Redgrave was 70 when she was in the play and now is 83 so there is a bit of a difference in her voice. There is a difference in the play and the recording. Sentences that begin with "if" are often magical thinking. That is a good example of magical thinking. In the early part she says she thinks he is still alive in California due to the time difference. I think people often do not understand what magical thinking is. It was very difficult to hear the pain and confusion. Redgrave sitting on the stage as if just telling us the story. I flew from Florida to NYC that morning so I was worried after hearing she had let the understudy take her place the night before. The evening before she had not been well and had canceled. She entered the theater looking really bad. I saw Vanessa Redgrave do the first run of The Year of Magical Thinking in 2007 on Broadway. The words here are from the one woman play of the same name. ** Important to know that this is a shorter version of the book by the same name available on Audible but not narrated by Vanessa Redgrave.

“The split between who believes the book is fiction vs. The following, more recent, history of Ong’s Hat and its mysterious inter-dimensional portal can be found in a book entitled “Ong’s Hat: The Beginning.” The author of the book, Joseph Matheny, is coy as to whether he intended the work as fact or fiction. Ong’s Hat might have been nothing more than a footnote in the local history books were it not for a very weird development that some believe occurred there in the last quarter of the twentieth century––the opening of a gateway to another dimension. Instead, there are piles of rubble, overgrown building foundations, and other reminders of a bygone age. It became a landmark by which people could find the small village, and the area was dubbed Ong’s Hat.Īs the Pine Barrens themselves became less and less populated with the dying out of local industry, Ong’s Hat was all but forgotten. It caught in the high branches of a pine tree and stayed there for years. Ong, who was very drunk and very upset that his chapeau had just been ruined, ran outdoors and tossed the hat into the air out of frustration. One of his love interests caught on to this practice at a dance and attacked Ong, taking his hat and stomping on it. He was a fixture at local dances, where he was famous for being able to woo the ladies with his fancy dance moves and suave attire––most notably his silk hat.Īpparently, Ong was something of what modern youth call a “player,” in that he would flirt and dance with all the ladies he could. Legend has it that at one time a resident of the area was a flashy young gentleman by the name of Ong (while his first name is unknown, Ong is an old time Pine Barrens name––one of the earliest Pines settlers was Jacob Ong). The facts are not clear, but the folklore surrounding the town’s name is well known. The true reason as to why anyone would name a village Ong’s Hat may be shrouded in mystery forever. One of the most infamous of these is Ong’s Hat in Burlington County. The New Jersey Pine Barrens have a plethora of deserted villages, most of them simply abandoned decades, even centuries ago. Taking a hard left leads to a place known as Ong’s Hat, and a trail that some say leads to a mysterious portal to another dimension. If one takes the Turnpike to exit four and follows Route 70 east, they will come to Route 72 at Four Mile Circle. Non-monospace fonts in Mudlet still aren't perfect, and not all fonts are designed to be used for their letters, so beware. As part of our internalisation work, we've added emoji and non-English letter support to the display as well - which now makes it good enough to be used with all fonts! The setting for picking a main window font was previously only limited to monospace fonts, as those are the ones that we've optimised our custom-made text display for. Meanwhile, if you're a UI author, test this Windows / macOS / Linux version of Mudlet to see if your UI is affected and if you need to fix it. As we don't want to introduce an update that fixes-but-really-breaks things, we've postponed this change until the next 4.7 release. We've fixed it - but in QA testing, we've discovered that a few UIs have been built that rely on this broken behavior to work: that is, getting a child to show up even though their container is hidden. This means that you can get a child of a hidden container to show up! This obviously doesn't sound right, and it affects things like anitimers working correctly. Makes sense, right? However, there is a way you can still get a child to show - if you call :show() on it explicitly. In Geyser, when you hide a container, all of its children get hidden as well. Okay, that was a ton of Geyser improvements. No longer! Now there are explicit :setBold(), :setUnderline(), :setItalics(), :setStrikeThrough(), :setFont(), :setFontSize(), and :setAlignment() functions available thanks to demonnic's work on this. Previously, if you wanted to format the way a label looks like, your only option was to use the format string every time you echo'd something to a label. Local stylesheet = ]Įnd Explicit formatting for Geyser labels and gauges You can easily handle old Mudlets that don't have this feature yet with: If you're a UI author, it is strongly encouraged to switch over to this new feature. Stylesheet for the current profile onlyĮdru2 has also added setProfileStyleSheet() - an easy to use, drop-in replacement for setAppStyleSheet() that only affects the current profile and not all of the other ones as well. Tooltips for labels and gaugesĬontinuing their roll, Edru2 added tooltips to labels and Geyser objects! You can now add a tooltip easily with mylabel: setToolTip("tooltip here"), check out some examples. Sounds interesting? Check out the docs on how to get started. Here's a demo of the chat capture EMCO working right inside a userwindow! Previously, only miniconsoles could go into a userwindow. Thanks to Edru2, it is now possible to put labels, miniconsoles, and the mapper inside userwindows! Userwindows in Mudlet are pop-up windows that you can drag around with your mouse, resize, or even move to another monitor. Geyser is the go-to way for making awesome interfaces in Mudlet and it's received a lot of improvements in this release. The land animal spirit guides represent your physical and emotional grounding and are linked to intuition and vigilance. They also assist you in obtaining a higher consciousness.īird animal spirit guides are symbolic of your strengths, desire for freedom and represent harmony with other creatures. Water animal spirit guides connect you to your spirituality and reveal to you your innermost desires and fears. The reptile spirit animals help with how you see yourself both internally and externally. They give you the ability to adapt more readily to changes in your surroundings and to be independent. The insect spirit animals help you with persistence and determination and will guide you toward patience and the ability to be objective. There are four types of animal guides: messenger, journey, life and shadow. Messenger spirit guide: This guide usually appears in order to guide or warn of a specific situation, and stays with you until the message is received and the warning is heeded. Journey spirit guide: This guide is known to appear when you come to a fork in the road or when a decision is needed in order to change the course of your path in life. This animal remains at your side until your journey is complete. The journey can take days, months or even years. Life spirit guide: This guide stays with you throughout your life and is a reflection of who and what you are and your spiritual makeup. You will be reminded by your guide of your strengths and innermost abilities. You may even have more than one life guide. Your life animal guide may be a type of animal that you had an affinity for as a small child, one that you find is around you frequently or one that you often dream about. Shadow spirit guide: This is the one that tests you. At first, it will most likely instill fear. This guide comes into your life to teach lessons about those areas that need changing. The animal totem would be revealed in the either physical form or in a vision.Īustralian Aborigines go on “walk-about” and often encounter their personal animal totems during this purposeful, observant walk through the realm of nature. It represents your inner fears and will keep reappearing until positive changes are made. In Native American Wisdom, totems were encountered when they set a similar intention while in a trance-like state or while journeying in nature. It takes practice to be still and listen – but able to do this, your animal spirits will begin to confirm their presence to you, and serve as powerful totems in your life. Be still, and the answer will come to you. How to confirm this? Ask the spirit of the animal that revealed itself to you. For example, if you see a red fox walking through a hedgerow during your morning commute after you set your intention to meet your animal totem – this is a potential totem for you. One way an animal totem will come to you is if you actually see an animal during your daily routine or nature walk that calls to you in some way. Animals don’t have all the ego-driven gobbeldy-gook humans do, and we would be far better off to mimic that kind of clean slate where the overactive ego is concerned. Become as animals (birds, fish, etc) are…which is pure awareness, pure consciousness. The primary factor in linking up and invoking your animal guide is to clean your own energy. This page on ways to invoke animal totems is yet another arrow in our quiver so we can hit the bullseye of understanding our animal guides and communicate with them (even through them, and they through us). Ways to Invoke Animal Totems for Deeper Connection That’s why I’ve written so much, and given so many presentations on the importance of teaming up with our animal kin. Animals are pure consciousness, and linking up with their energy rubs off on us in a pure, positive way. Yeppers, I think it’s that big of a deal. Discovering, communicating and forming a relationship with the animal side of life is fundamental in becoming a whole human as well as creating harmonic balance on earth. Reasons Why, and Ways to Invoke Animal Totems: If you’ve been following this website for any length of time, you’ll know I’m a little rabid about connecting with our animal totems for the purpose of personal growth. I copy the entire my_file directory from the remote system to the local system. rsync -r source_dir _address:/home/username/target_dir Just use -r option with rsync to copy entire directory over SSH between remote systems. How about copying directories with rsync? I am copying local.txt file from the current directory to the home directory of the user abhishek on the remote system. Here is a generic syntax which will copy the file to the home directory of username on the remote system. Copy files from your local machine to the remote machine I am copying the file remote.txt from the /home/abhishek/my_file directory on the remote system to the current directory of the local machine. Let's take the same example you saw with scp. Let's say you want to copy a file from the home directory of the user on the remote system to the current directory of your locally logged in system. Copy files from the remote machine to your local machine Older versions of rsync had to use rsync -e ssh but that's not the case anymore. Actually, it is better than scp in many terms. Since scp is being deprecated, rsync is the next best tool for copying files between remote system over SSH. Method 2: Use rsync to copy files and directories over SSH Read some more examples of scp command in this tutorial: scp -r source_dir _address:/home/username/target_dir The syntax is similar to the cp command too. Like cp command, you can also use scp to copy directory over SSH. Remember I told you I like scp because of its similarity with the cp command? Then I logged into the remote system to show that the file has actually been copied. In the above example, I copied local.txt file from the current directory to the home directory of the user abhishek on the remote system. This is a generic syntax which will copy the filename to the home directory of username on the remote system. In this one, you are sending a local file to the remote system over SSH using scp. The tab completion does not work on remote systems. This should give you a hint that you should know the exact location of the file on the remote system. In the example above, I copied the file remote.txt from the /home/abhishek/my_file directory on the remote system to the current directory of the local machine. Now, let me show you a real-world example of this command. ĭo you see the similarity with the cp command? It's almost the same except that you have to specify username and ip address with colon (:). Here's a generic syntax that copies the file from the home directory of the user on the remote system to the current directory of your locally logged in system. You want to copy files from the remote Linux system to the currently logged in system. Why? Because its syntax is similar to the cp command. Still, it is my favorite tool for transferring files between systems over SSH. I have read that scp is going to be deprecated. Method 1: Use scp command to copy files over SSH With that aside, let's see the methods for copying files between remote systems via SSH. know the IP address or hostname (on the same subnet) of the remote machine.know the username and password on the remote machine.have SSH access between the two machines.sftp clients: GUI tool for accessing file over SFTPįor a successful file transfer over SSH, you need to.sshfs: Mounting remote directory over SSH.rsync: Popular command for file synchronization.scp: Legacy command which is being deprecated.I am going to discuss the following methods here: There are various ways you can transfer files over SSH. Sooner or later, you'll find yourself in a situation where you have to upload the file to the remote server over SSH or copy a file from it. You can also download recipes from the internet or create custom foods and dishes. MyFitnessPal’s nutrition database is extensive, containing more than 11 million foods. This is a formal determination by FEMA of a property's location and/or elevation relative to the Special Flood Hazard Area. If you think the flood map boundaries are incorrect, you can apply for a Letter of Map Change. Base flood elevations derived from detailed analyses are shown at selected intervals within these zones These areas have a 26% chance of flooding over the life of a 30‐year mortgage. Property owners in X Zone are not required to purchase flood insurance, unless they have received federal disaster. The Shaded X-zone (dark grey) represents the 200 to 400-year floodplain, and the X-zone (teal) is the 500-year floodplain. Zone VE - coastal areas with a 1% or greater chance of flooding and an additional hazard associated with storm waves. The X zone is a moderate risk flood zone.No base flood elevations are shown within these zones. These areas are typically protected by levees or have shallow flooding areas. The chance of a flood is somewhere between the 100-year and 500-year flood. These areas have a 26% chance of flooding over the life of a 30‐year mortgage. Flood Zone B and Zone X (Shaded) Originally designated as Flood Zone X (shaded), Flood Zone B is an area with moderate risk flood zones. Zone V - coastal areas with a 1% or greater chance of flooding and an additional hazard associated with storm waves.Zone AE - 100-year floodplain, the base floodplain where base flood elevations are provided.Because detailed analyses are not performed for such areas, no base flood elevations are shown. Zone A - 100-year floodplain, areas with a 1% annual chance of flooding and a 26% chance of flooding over the life of a 30‐year mortgage.High Risk Areas (Special Flood Hazard Area) The new flood map, however, will show my house as being in a low-risk flood zone (B, C, or X-zone). Flood Zone X (formerly Flood Zones B and C) means that properties in these areas are not in a Flood Zone and insurance is not necessarily required. I have flood insurance and my house is in an A Zone according to the current flood map. Includes areas of moderate flood hazard, such as base floodplains and shallow flooding areas, and minimal flood hazard, which may still have ponding and local drainage problems. Any flood zone that begins with the letter A is subject to the 1 percent annual chance flood. Zone X - Floodplain area with a 0.2% (or 1 in 500 chance) or less annual chance of flooding. To view the effective flood zone for a property or area, visit Hillsborough County’s Effective Flood Zone Viewer. Talk to your insurance provider about your policy and consider if you need additional coverage. Most homeowners insurances do not cover flood damage. Flood maps, also known as Flood Insurance Rate Maps, provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are a useful tool for assessing a property’s flood risk, and also are a factor in flood insurance and building requirements. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah won the 1996 presidential election and became the first multi-party democratically elected president of Sierra Leone. Eventually, "Elections before Peace" won the debate. He's a mighty guardian, but he also strikes me as very humble. > I bet Elios would be honored if you sculpted him. But I want my next piece to be more ambitious. I want to get better at capturing living things in sculpture, so I've tried with some small animals. I love making castles with Topi when we go to the beach. You can sculpt with all sorts of different things. But that just makes me want to eat it more. When I bought the dough from Liam, he said I probably shouldn't eat it. > I had no idea you could sculpt something out of dough. No, really! Sculpt the dough, then bake it, and just like that you've got a bread sculpture! It's a fancy way of saying "the stuff I'm sculpting with." Usually I use dirt clay, but you can make sculptures out of just about anything that can be molded. I figure there's no point in worrying unless Nathaniel or Lucia tells us to.Įven if you're wrong, it's just nice to hear someone else say that!įeeling well today, ? I'm trying out a new sculpting medium, myself. I have to keep a brave face sometimes for Topi. > I agree, Sun Haven is going to be just fine. > It sounds like you're avoiding the problem. Sun Haven seems to be doing pretty well, anyway! You mean with all the rumors that have been going around about that monster city? It's a little unnerving, so I try not to think about it too much. > Do you ever worry about Sun Haven's future? Of course I get along with Solon - he's an artist like me! It's impossible not to respect the level of mastery he's reached in blacksmithing. Not in the slightest! Part of why I love Sun Haven is because I consider everyone here to be a friend of mine.Ĭalvin is a riot! Have you spoken to him? He acts so grumpy all the time - it's hilarious! > Is there anyone here you'd consider bad company? How've you been, ? Good company is always welcome by me. I'll probably discover something new in a couple months. I know I'm just in the honeymoon phase with sculpting right now. When something new finds me, I become completely obsessed with it. I'm sure I'll discover something new in a couple months. I'm probably just in the honeymoon phase, though. I haven't been sculpting that long, but I'm completely obsessed with it. > How do you choose which art form to practice? I also used to whittle, but I stopped because I kept cutting my fingers. I've done my share of painting, and still do. I've dabbled here and there over the years. He's my best work yet!Īh, maybe you're not much of an artist then. My art is fulfilling too, but it's nothing compared to having Topi. If you ask me, making a living thing is as creative as it gets! You're over there growing living things all day. But I like what you said, too!įine art is a satisfying form of expression, but farming seems pretty creative too. That's what I say! Well, not exactly in those words. I didn't realize I was speaking with such a critic. > No matter how long it takes, progress is progress. I only started sculpting about a year ago, so I'm still perfecting my craft. Oh sure, I've been an artist since I was, well, close to your age. I have to forage berries to make my own paint. I guess we could use an art supplies store. > You don't have any complaints about this town? > If you could change something about Sun Haven, what would it be? That's three generations of families, and we're all happy as clams! Tonya and I have lived here our whole lives. > Would you say Sun Haven is a good place to raise a family? but I sneak off to Liam's every now and then for a treat. “Tonya keeps me in shape with a good diet. “Breathing in fresh air, working on my craft, and spending time with the family. Then I remove the bits that don't belong.” “When I'm sculpting, I try to picture the sculpture inside the stone. Topi's such a calm boy, he could stand to get into a little mischief.” “That Pod is a troublemaker, but I don't mind it. You think so?
